VICTUURI “THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA” AU. (with a few changes.) BEAR WITH ME HERE.

  • Yuuri is a journalist major who wants to be a fashion journalist more than anything in the world
  • He looks up to Victor Nikiforov, editor of History Maker Magazine, a very very famous and prestigious company with millions of subscribers
  • Unexpectedly, he gets a job as Victor’s secretary, he’s super excited but he discovers that Victor ROASTS people when he doesn’t like their ideas
  • (and by roast i don’t mean he yells at them, i mean he smiles and tells them politely that it’s terrible and everyone is like??? is he nice??? is he evil??? omg i am horrified of him)
  • (He has a soft spot for his poodle, though, so after destroying several people’s hopes and dreams and telling them to come up with something else he’s like ‘MAKKACHIN!’ and happily jumps away to pet his dog)
  • Yurio is Victor’s little brother who he has a soft spot for and who loiters around the building and gives Yuuri a hard time by throwing spitballs at him
  • Anyway, Victor sees Yuuri as his new secretary and thinks he’s super cute but he has no idea how to express it so he tries to give him really hard jobs and Yuuri is like oh my god what the heck I am overwhelmed
  • He also gives him a lot of opportunities, though, and Yuuri does his best with them and keeps succeeding and Victor is internally super proud but externally like ‘hmm keep going. here’s another assignment.’
  • (But Victor keeps selecting him to go on different trips w/ him and Yuuri is like ???????? ok why am i getting all this special attention this is hype)
  • Somehow Victor works out how to express his feelings and tells Yuuri and they fall in love happily ever after

There’s a sense of purity to being in love with Yuuri that Viktor can never seem to get tired of.

Being in love with Yuuri is, putting it simply, being in itself. There’s a feeling of fullness, sheer life to the act of falling in love with this man who so sweetly put this golden ring on his finger yet so deviously caught his heart in a drunken grasp.

In vino veritas, they say, but what truth lay in his inebriated Yuuri was not the same truth that rested in the heart of his now-fiancé. Who he became infatuated with at first sight, that stranger three sheets to the wind who toyed with his heart, was not the same man he fell in love with: beautiful in his reservation, holding a strong will behind his glass heart, and anxious in love but a fighter for Viktor’s affection all the same.

Being in love in itself is a dream, a fantasy concocted by lonely hearts much like his own, but knowing the fullness of it- knowing the weight and depth of love in all its ugly and beautiful faces is a truth that Viktor cannot even begin to explain without first pulling out his love’s name as an inimitable part of it.

Being in love with Yuuri- knowing that he is loved back- is knowing what it means to be. Purity of life and love in its finest form lies in the heart that seeks no other happiness than his love’s own, and Viktor has never before been so intent on another’s joy until Yuuri came along and carved his place into Viktor’s life. What selfishness, what loneliness, what winter his weary lungs had learned to live with became the sweet summer of Hasetsu’s ocean as he is held close, held on equal ground, and loved.

To be in love, to be so loved-

what happiness it is! What joy, what warmth, what exhilaration it brings to know and feel and be as a man loved and in love.

Never will Viktor regret those months of confusion, the drawn-out yearning, their love story untold and retold from the banquet and begun once again, anew, in Yuuri’s heart and home.

I’ve spent some time lately trying to figure out why, exactly, it always rings false to me when people call Viktor a “playboy.” And I think I figured it out:

Viktor Nikiforov believes in love.

Viktor is definitely presented as a playboy. That’s not the problem: he has millions of male and female fans who literally swoon over him, he’s noted for being “free with his charms,” is called “the world’s hottest bachelor,” and his initial behavior with Yuuri is very forward, physical, and flirtatious. Even seven episodes of character growth in, his initial reaction to comfort Yuuri is kissing him.

So it’s not that Viktor doesn’t have the groundwork laid for this interpretation.

Most “playboy” archetypes fall into this pattern of having been hurt in the pat by someone—a parent, a friend, usually a former lover—and they are now jaded and no longer believe in love. The love interest is there to facilitate the playboy’s growth by being warm and loving and caring and everything the playboy needs and convince them that love doesn’t have to hurt. The playboy’s character arc takes them through this long trial in which their love interest is used as free emotional labor and an emotional punching bag while the playboy works out his personal issues.

While we have basically no backstory on Viktor, he doesn’t appear to have been hurt like this in the past. He’s just a sad, lonely man with major depressive disorder and no friends or family, apparently. Which, as my brother pointed out when I made this argument to him, doesn’t sound very much like a playboy.

As soon as he meets Yuuri at the banquet and realizes, “I could fall in love with this man,” he chases it with everything he has. He already knows how much he wants and needs love and how much good it could do him. He’s not running away from affection, he’s running full-tilt toward it.

Which neatly averts any “using Yuuri as an emotional punching bag,” and for that I will be forever grateful.

I love how it’s canon that Yuuri and Victor are so inseparable that they build their lives around living together

I love how it’s canon that Victor was smitten with Yuuri and that all his closeness was him straight-up flirting

I love how it’s canon that Yuuri looked up to Victor since he was a kid and was such a fanboy that he had the latter’s face plastered all over his walls

I love how it’s canon that they exchanged rings which were later explicitly stated to be engagement rings

I love how it’s canon that Victor is constantly clinging to Yuuri even though he isn’t that touchy with anyone else

I love how it’s canon that Yuuri, who was explicitly stated to be uncomfortable with being emotionally vulnerable and needing hugs, opens up to being hugged and starts initiating hugs with Victor himself

I love how it’s canon that Yuuri and Victor prepared a pair skating routine with lifts and tender face touching and matching costumes and they performed it in front of the entire world while their rings were flashing

I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS SHOW AND THIS SHIP AND IT STILL MAKES ME CRY ON A REGULAR BASIS

otabek is definitely the most Extra™ and over-the-top romantic dude?? bro waited for five years until the perfect opportunity presented itself to steal yuri away on his bike and take his to a beautiful place where he confessed to admiring him and telling he has the “eyes of a soldier” with the fucking sunset on the background because why not

so don’t try to tell me that when he’s planning on how to ask him out he doesn’t pull all the stops to make it be the most ridiculously romantic thing that won’t look like he actually Put In The Effort because yuri is permanently fed up with those because of victuuri, and that they’re probably progressively ruined by interferance from others and random incidents, until when he finally has things settled and is ready to take yuri to the star-lit frozen pond or whatever the fuck he decided on and he’s Very Casually leading him to the bike to get this show on the road

and instead yuri just goes “are you going to date me or not??” with a super pouty expression, and welp - fuck romantic settings and petal showers and all that comes with it

otabek just can’t say no to that

AU where Yura was born in the US, and was introduced to ice skating when his next-door neighbour, Yuuri Katsuki, who occasionally babysat him, took him to the rink one day.

Yura fell completely in love, and somehow managed to convince his parents to let him start learning.

But then when he’s 8, his family moves to Russia and he’s just so angry at everything because he doesn’t want to leave behind his home and his coach and his big bro Yuuri.

And even though he becomes rinkmates with the current top male figure skater in the world, Yura doesn’t really give a shit about him, instead cheering for and idolizing a Japanese figure skater from America.

Viktor is pouty.

But thanks to Yura’s idolization of Yuuri Katsuki, Yakov takes a closer look at him and sees his potential and ends up extending Yuuri an offer to coach him.

So four years after Yura arrived in Russia, he is reunited with his idol, and his rinkmates are all so surprised.

Because??? Yuuri is the most precious thing ever?? He’s so cute? And sweet? And everyone loves him?????

What with the way Yura seems to basically worship the ground he walks on, everyone had lowkey been expecting him to be as firey and explosive as Yura was.

The first time Yura hears someone saying this, he starts snickering, and then laughing uncontrollably, while Yuuri’s face is turning an embarrassed red and he refuses to look anyone in the eye.

“Who do you think I first learned to swear from?” he asks, looking up at Yuuri with a smirk.

Everyone turns to stare at Yuuri with surprise and horror.

He still refuses to look anyone in the eye.

“It was just a phase,” he murmurs defensively. “It wasn’t even that bad.”

“He was suspended three times in high school for getting in fights!” Yura crows in delight and something that sounds kind of like pride.
